Team Information
The University of Wisconsin Whitewater has had a men's bowling program since the mid 1970's. There has always been successes within the program, either team or individual. Shawn Wochner came in at the start of the 2010-11 season as the Head Men's Bowling Coach until his final season being the 2021-2022 season. During his time here, he had greatly turned around this program to be a constant contender for the Helmer Cup including the programs first ever ITC National Championship in Wochner's final season as a head coach! The program is now coached by former Warhawk Brandon Mooney, who began his head coaching career in 2022-2023.
Prior to Coach Wochner coming on board, the team was ranked 32nd in the nation (which was a program high under the current ranking system). The team had reached the Intercollegiate Team Championships (ITC's) once (2007-08 season) and had one previous NCBCA All-American (Jon Schalow during the 2006-07 season). Since then, the team has reached the ITC's six consecutive times (2014 - 2019) and have had three different players (Nick Kruml, Josh Pate and Zach Woelfel) earn eight NCBCA All-American honors, including Nick Kruml who is one of 13 players in the history of college bowling to be named a NCBCA All-American all four years of their collegiate career. As of the completion of the 2018-19 season, the team has won 38 tournaments (including 3 Tier 1's), earned 4 conference championships, been ranked in the top 10 for the past six seasons (including being ranked 2nd during the 2017-18 season), finished 3rd at the ITC's in both 2017 and 2018, won the 2019 Club National Championship and have had 124 All-Tournament Team finishes (including 33 individual wins).
All of this is said to say that despite the challenges of being a Club Program, we are still one of the premier programs in the nation. While we aren't able to provide athletic scholarship, have a fully funded budget nor have a full time coach, we still have found a way to attract the nations top players and have become a major power house in college bowling! In fact, we've had players come to our program from the following states: Alaska, California, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, New York, North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and Wisconsin.
If you are the type of player who is willing to: put in hard work both on and off the lanes, willing to earn your spot on the varsity roster through performance in college tournaments, seek to be the best for the team and not the best on the team, and you believe that being a part of such a program as the Warhawks is bigger than yourself, then you are the type of player that we are looking for and the typse of player who would be successful in our program!

Team Dues
Because we are considered a Club Program, we are not able to award athletic scholarships nor does the university fully fund our budget. Because of this, the players who make the team are required to pay a team dues. For the 2023-24 season, that dues amount is $750. This dues money is used to offset the costs for the program. For the $750, players will receive:
· Tryout fee
· Unlimited practice at Warhawk Alley
· Access to personal coaching (both from the coaching staff as well as outside coaches brought in by the coaching staff to help the program)
· 2 Team Jerseys & Team Jacket
· Tournament entries
· Travel expenses (excluding meals)
· 3-ball bag rolling tote and 2 ball tote
Players selected for the Developmental Team will pay a fee of $300 and will receive unlimited practice, access to coaching and a team jacket.

2 Different Teams
The University of Wisconsin Whitewater's Men's Bowling team has two different teams that a player will be selected to be on. No student who tries out for the team will be cut, therefore everyone will be selected for one of the two teams! The two teams include:
Competitive Team: 24 players will be selected to have the opportunity to travel and compete during the 2022-23 collegiate season representing the University of Wisconsin Whitewater. Selection for this team will be made at the conclusion of tryouts and will be based on the following categories:
Written responses to Pre-Tryout Questionnaire
Statistics from games bowled during tryouts
Coaches perspective of coachability, team attitude and overall opportunity to contribute to programs success
Developmental Team: Any player who went through tryouts, or who came after the Competitive Team was determined, will have the opportunity to be on the Developmental Team. Players in the Developmental Team will be able to practice at Warhawk Alley anytime. They will also have access to coaching and a team jacket.
For more information on the Men's Bowling Team or to sign up for tryouts, please contact Brandon Mooney (Head Men's Bowling Coach) at [email protected] or 815-978-0650.
