Warhawks Sign With Motiv
The Warhawks are honored for the opportunity to join Motiv for the 2021-22 season. Motiv has a strong culture of family and customer service, two things important to us. Chris made us feel immediately a part of the team and welcomed us with open arms. Our student-athletes can't wait to begin a new chapter in our program with Motiv balls in our bags. We are excited to continue the success we've seen over the past decade and take it to new heights now that we are a part of #MotivNation!
Warhawks Bow Out Early
And with that, the 2020-21 Warhawks season has come to an end. Today we lost to Wichita State (4-1) and then this afternoon we lost to William Penn (4-0). Our guys stepped up and performed, the other teams just caught more breaks, were penalized less for slight misses, threw more good shots and inevitably scored higher because of it. However, the Warhawks competed with integrity the entire tournament and season. And for that, we can hold our heads high.
While this loss today is going to hurt for a good amount of time, I’m unbelievably proud of how this team came together this season and more so this post season. Every one of these guys has a lot to be proud of. We’ve grown this year, we’ve all learned a lot and we achieved things other people and programs didn’t expect us to. Again, despite this outcome, it was a great season.
And while the team did not earn any NCBCA or IBMA All-American honors, Head Coach Shawn Wochner was named the NCBCA Gordon Vadakin Men's Coach of the Year. This marks the third time Shawn has received this honor, and is the first coach to recieve this honor three different times.

Warhawks are National Bound
The Warhawks headed off to Dayton, OH for their sectional competition this past weekend. Poelking Lanes South played host to the 2019 Intercollegiate Team Championships. The sectional weekend kicked off with the Intercollegiate Singles Championships qualifier on Friday morning. Without coaches allowed in the building, our Warhawks were still able to find success. Junior Andy Gross was able to put together a 1280 six game set to lead our sectional and qualify for the ISC's in Grand Rapids. Our lefties also posted top 10 finishes, just missing invitations to the ISC's. Brandon Mooney finished 8th (+19) and Drake Bazzy finished 10th (+7).
Beginning on Saturday morning, the focus shifted to the team qualifier. Due to the change in schedule because of capacity in Addison, IL, the format was shorted from 64 games to 40. So it was a much shorter and quicker format this year, not really allowing for many bad sets. With that said, the Warhawks stumbled out of the games shooting a 711 set, which placed the team 11th out of 20. The Warhawks rallied back with an 825 the second set, which jumped the team up to 2nd. The team followed that up with another nice 821 series which bumped them up to the top spot. The fourth set is really where the Warhawks began to separate themselves from the rest of the field. The fourth set they shot 277, 234, 244 and 191 for 946, which launched them well over both 2nd and the 5th placed teams. Sunday was more of the same. 766, 810, 846 and 799 sets before the final set which was 750.
This marks the seventh consecutive season that the Warhawks will be represented at the Intercollegiate Team Championships. This also is the fifth consecutive season that at least one Warhawk has qualified for the Intercollegiate Singles Championships. We can't wait to see what lies ahead for the Warhawks!

BACK TO BACK Club National Champions
What a weekend! Yesterday, we started with the Club All-American award announcements. Congratulation to Quinn Sheehy for being named a Club Second Team All-American as well as Drake Bazzy for being named a Club First Team All-American! And head coach Shawn Wochner was named the Randy Widger Men’s Club Coach of the Year.
Then the Warhawks went on to led qualifying at the Collegiate Club Championships and averaged 220 doing so. Following a short break and an opening round, the Warhawks faced off with Adrian in our first round. Unfortunately we weren’t able to get anything going and lost 0-3 (shooting a trio of 182 games).
After a regrouping last night and the drawing up of a new plan for the fresh, the team made the LONG run to the national championship today. Here’s a run down of the day today:
Round 4 against Arizona State University (Best of 3)
UWW - 167, 224, 212
ASU - 173, 202, 191
Round 5 against Wright State University (Best of 3)
UWW - 266, 201
WSU - 226, 197
Round 6 against Bowling Green State University (Best of 3)
UWW - 191, 211
BGSU - 178, 191
Round 7 against Lewis University (Best of 3)
UWW - 203, 245, 244
Lewis - 227, 215, 200
Round 8 against the University of Central Missouri (Best of 3)
UWW - 185, 186, 223
UCM - 172, 192, 215
Round 9 against Adrian College (Best of 5)
UWW - 227, 210, 300
AC - 210, 179, 178
Round 10 against Adrian College (Best of 5)
UWW - 194, 243, 196
AC - 161, 182, 180
These guys bowled extremely well today as they averaged 217.26 for their 19 games. They never cease to amaze me. Backs against the wall every shot today as if we lost another match, it would have taken us out of the tournament. Just amazing that these guys were able to preserve through seven matches!
And the accolades didn’t stop there. Quinn Sheehy was named to the All-Tournament Team and Brandon Mooney was named the tournaments Most Valuable Player! Congratulations to the two of them.
This weekend was a compete team effort. Everyone had their moment to shine on the lanes! Clearly Brandon and Quinn excelled on shots! Andy Gross and Donovan J. Thomas were solid all weekend. Brett Beuthin and Garrett Meadows sacrificed the opportunity to bowl in order to break down the pattern the way we needed it to be. Ty Peterson stepped in today and made some key shots to keep us in matches. And Drake was our fill guy, which is an important role, especially with him having the opportunity to be able to shoot any crazy leaves or splits if needed. And thanks to all the help and insight from our Assistant Coach Jr Meagher. I’m just so absolutely proud of this team! And of course we share this title with each and every Warhawk on campus! 8 guys didn’t win today, 23 did!
Back to back Club National Champions! Heck yeah fellas! Now to refocus up for next Sectionals next weekend in Dayton, OH!

Warhawks Postseason Squad Announced
With the regular season behind us, it is now time to focus on the post season! Because of the amount of talent in the program, the success that many individuals had, and the shortened season all factored into making the post season roster decision even more difficult than it normally is. After much consultation and thought, the coaching staff have selected the following players to represent the Warhawks in the postseason:
Drake Bazzy
Brett Beuthin
Andy Gross
Garrett Meadows
Brandon Mooney
Ty Peterson
Quinn Sheehy
Donovan Thomas
Because of the crazy world we are living in, we have also asked five additional Warhawks to continue practicing in case someone tests positive or a roster spot needs to be changed. The five additional Warhawks are:
Tanner Ausec
Zak Geer
Maguire Hansche
Mason Peterson
Frank Terpo
The Warhawks will head to Anderson, IN to finally defend their 2019 Club National Championship on April 10th and 11th. The following weekend, the team will travel to Dayton, OH (home of the 2019 ITC's) in hopes of finishing in the top four to earn our seventh consecutive trip to the Intercollelgiate Team Championships. Be sure to follow our Facebook page for live streams in the post season!

Another Successful Regular Season
Now that the regular season has come to an end, it is time to reflect on the abnormal season it was. First, the Warhawks initial goal of the season was met by being allowed to even compete this season. We know that there are many programs out there (over 100, including all other UW programs) that weren't given this opportunity. So for that, we are very thankful.
When it came to the success on the lanes this spring, the guys did not disappoint. We had 16 different guys step up in varsity roles this season, with others deserving as well. The program won four of our eight tournaments, including a bracket at the Saber Invite. Eight different players earned a total of 12 different All-Tournament Team honors. The team also finished 2nd in two bracket finals (Kohawk and Five Seasons). And for the first time every, earlier in the season, the Warhawks were voted number 1 in the NCBCA Coaches Team Poll. That was very exciting. But because of all the accomplishments on the lanes, the team was able to finish the regular season ranked 2nd in the nation! This is the second time the team has finished ranked 2nd in our programs history. We are very honored and excited about this.
Behind the scenes was also different this year. We had to alter our practice schedules, our practice regiments, our study hours and class schedules, as well as how the leadership of the team operated. But through all of this, we were still able to recognize seven young men as NCBCA Scholar Athletes (3.5 cumulative GPA or higher) as well as a program high cumulative GPA of 3.206! These guys truly put the "student" in Student-Athlete!
Now our focus will shift to the postseason. In just a couple of hours, the team will learn who will be representing the program in the postseason, as well as who will be asked to continue to practice in case they are needed. This is always a difficult decision, and this year more than ever due to the nuances of the season. At the end of the day, it is the coaches job to select the eight young men that we believe give us the best opportunity to advance to and have success at the ITC's in May. While this year was very different, the postseason goals have not changed. Regardless of postseason selection or not, every single member of this program has contributed to the success this season. It has taken our entire village to preserver through the pandemic and challenges we faced because of it. And by sticking together from here on out will help to ensure our success in April and May!
The Warhawks would like to thank Matt Schneider of UWW Club Sports, Tonia Kapitan and Leann Sullivan of
Warhawk Alley and everyone else on campus who was instrumental in getting this team ready to compete this spring. We would like to thank our sponsors Brunswick Bowling and Logo Infusion Inc for their full support during this shortened season. As well as our parents and coaches spouses. We know that this year has been tough on the parents not being able to attend tournaments, but we hope the livestreams and zoom meetings have helped to make you feel more part of the experience! Can't wait to have you back at the lanes next season.
Finally, thank you to all of our student-athletes and coaches who have given so much this season. Our noses (from all of the covid testing) will never be the same. We will never be as comfortable in hotel rooms again. And never again will I make everyone grab food to go and eat in your hotel room. But thank you for enduring everything we've had to do this year in order to compete! Can't wait for April and May! Let's continue what we've started this season and create some success in the post season!

Strong Finish to End Regular Season
There's no other way the Warhawks would end an already abnormal regular season than in an abnormal way. The Warhawks ventured to the Five Seasons Classic with no Varsity or JV 1 coaches. Thankfully Chaz Callan had volunteered to help with the JV 2 team so they were able to have some coaching. Both Shawn and JR received positive COVID results, which forced the two of them to coach from home.
Despite being coachless on-site, the Warhawks still turned out a strong finish. While the team had their normal struggle through transition games 2 and 3, they got into the right part of the lane with the right balls and were able to fire two big games the last two in order to jump from 7th to 4th, and just a little over a hundred out of the lead. After a good team discussion via Facetime, the varsity team came out with a different game plan on Saturday and were able to climb from 4th to 2nd.
In the bracket, the varsity team took on Iowa Central Community College in the opening round. After dropping game one, they rallied back to win the next two and advance through to the finals. This allowed the Warhawks the opportunity to defend their championship from last season. In the championship round, we faced off with McKendree. They ran away with the first game, making some great shots. In game 2, the Warhawks got out to a slow start opening the first two frames. But the teams “in the moment” demeanor allowed them to come back and Donovan Thomas
doubled in the 10th for the Warhawks to win game 2 and send it to a decisive game 3. Once again though, McKendree just out bowled us game 3 scoring big to claim the bracket championship! Congrats to a strong McKendree team!
This brings the regular season to a close. We should know final rankings by mid day tomorrow, but we should certainly stay in the top 5, if not top 2! Our post season roster and practice squad will be announced on Tuesday and our sectional assignment will be announced on Wednesday! Busy week ahead. Club Nationals are in two weeks and Sectionals are in three weeks. Lots of work to be done between now and then!

Another Top 8 Finish
This past weekend, the Warhawks competed in the Leatherneck Classic. This was the strongest field of the 2020-21 season, and the Warhawks held their own. While the team struggled throughout the middle of the day, they finished with a strong 1102 game final game to jump a little bit in the standings. Sunday, during baker play, the team rolled three great sets and one that prevented them from a top 5 finish. But finishing 6th in a strong field of 32, with 10 of the top 20 ranked teams, will set the team up for success moving forward.
The Warhawks have one final tournament this regular season this coming weekend in Cedar Rapids, IA.

3rd at Warhawk Open
Your Warhawks had a great showing at the Warhawk Open this past weekend. This 3rd place finish propelled them to the top of the power rankings!
This weekend is the “big one” of the 2020-21 season. The Leatherneck Classic has 32 varsity men’s teams, which includes 10 of the top 17 teams in the nation. Be sure to tune in to our Facebook livestream all weekend long!

2nd in Qualifying and Bracket
Another great outing for the Warhawks. While we fell short in both qualifying and the bracket finals, it was by far our best day on the lanes this spring. The guys went +230 for 12 bakers. They truly came together and everyone made great shots when we needed it.
After a really rough game two, the team stuck together and earned a solid second place finish behind an extremely talented St Ambrose. Then in match play, after splitting the first two games with Hastings, an errant spare attempt in the 10th allowed Quinn to just get decent count to move on to the finals. Again, the Warhawks split the first two games with St Ambrose. It came down to the 9th and 10th frames and we just came up short. But still very proud of the guys.
Now we finally get a weekend off next weekend before our final three tournaments of the regular season. Have to keep pushing and striving to get better. This is a team that can do great things.

Warhawks Earn 4th Win of Season
The Warhawks pulled out their fourth win of the season today at the Golden Eagle Classic in Rockford, IL. While the varsity team struggled game three, the other four games were pretty solid. The JV 2 team also came out on top out of all teams there. And Drake Bazzy got his second win and third ATT or the season while Quinn Sheehy finished fourth for his third ATT as well. Congrats to all our guys, but today showed that we have a lot to work on before next weekend!
Speaking of next weekend, we will compete in the Kohawk Classic next Saturday in Cedar Rapids, IA.

Warhawks Ranked #1 by Coaches
This is a message not 11 years in the making, but rather more than 40 years in the making. For the first time in the programs history, the National Collegiate Bowling Coaches Association (NCBCA) has ranked the
University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Warhawks Men’s Bowling Program number 1 in the nation!
While there is no physical award for being ranked number 1 in the nation by the coaches, this is an honor our student-athletes, our coaches, our university, our alumni and our village are extremely proud of. Our student-athletes don’t receive athletic scholarships. Our coaches aren’t full time. And we don’t have fully funded budgets. But what we always do have is a group of guys that work their butts off for everything they get. They also have a genuine gel with each other, meaning they trust and respect one another. They have bought into something bigger than themselves. And I couldn’t be more proud of them!
This season is far from normal, just like some may say about this poll. But the results are what they are, and we will use this recognition as a new bar to rise to. After losing five student-athletes off what would have been our post-season roster last year, we have reloaded with homegrown talent and some new phenomenal talent. The guys understand that to whom much is given , much is required! We can’t wait to continue to earn the respect of the college bowling world!

Filling Up in the Brew City!
Another great weekend in the books for the Warhawks! All three teams were in competition at AMF West in Milwaukee, WI.
Saturday, the Varsity team lead the field by over 280 pins. JV 2 lead the way for the JV division and finished 2nd amongst all varsity teams. Top individual performers were Quinn Sheehy leading the way at +37 for 3 games. Finished 2nd was JV2 team member Hunter Loveridge at +11. And finishing 4th in his Warhawk debut was Brett Beuthin at +6. Other top 10 finishers was Frank Terpo in at 7th and Andy Gross finishing 9th.
Sunday, the varsity team got off to a really slow start as they had the wrong balls in their hands. However after some ball changes, the team fired back to back 1060 games. This allowed the Warhawks to sail to an over 300 pin victory. Again JV2 lead the way for the JV teams. This time though our JV’s finished 2nd 3rd among varsity teams. Always a positive when our JV teams are able to beat all of the other varsity teams. And it was another great individual showing for Whitewater. Sunday saw Drake Bazzy bring home the individual win at +57 for 3 team games. JV2 was well represented with Andy Gross going +44 to finish 2md and Maguire Hansche tied for 4th with +28. Maguire tied with JV1 team member Ty Peterson at +28. Other top 10 finishes included Donovan J. Thomas at +25 to finish 6th and Quinn Sheehy finished 8th with -7.
The team continues to get better each time we take the lanes. While we would love to be much further along with progress given we are at the halfway point of the spring competitive semester, we are learning and working harder as each tournament that passes. The Warhawks will travel to Rockford on Saturday for the Golden Eagle Invite. Be sure to tune in as all three teams will compete in 5 traditional team games.

Warhawks Return to Play
On January 24th, 343 days since the Warhawks wrapped up the 2019-20 regular season at the Hoosier Classic, the Warhawks finally were able to return to action. And clearly it didn't happen with any since of normalcy. In fact, Head Coach Shawn Wochner had not seen the team since October 27th. After several team members tested positive for the Corona virus, and knowing that the university planned to shift to remote learning after Thanksgiving, the team took the rest of the fall off from official practices. And because the Sabre Shootout was a pop up event, the Warhawks had already committed to not practicing until the second week of classes.
So the Varsity team took to the lanes without an official practice in 12 weeks, the Warhawks returned to collegiate competition. And the Warhawks returned in true Warhawk fashion. They were able to dominate the field and earn a 355 pin victory over Marian (WI), the tournament host. Along the way, the team saw three returners earn All-Touranment Team honors. Senior All-American Brandon Mooney finihsed 2nd overall. Junior Club National Champion Quinn Sheehy finished 4th overall. And Sophomore Conference Rookie of the Year Drake Bazzy finished 5th overall. The team also saw a strong off the bench performance in bakers by Junior Andy Gross!
While the team didn't perform to the best of their ability, certainly due to being rusty and having no official practice prior to the tournament, it was just great to be on the lanes again! The full team will compete again February 13th and 14th at the Brew City Collegiate Classic I & II in Milwaukee!

Academic Success
Despite not being able to compete this fall, the Warhawks did not let that deter their success in the classroom. For the second consecutive semester, the Warhawks has set a new bar for the teams cumulative GPA! While the team had a 3.157 semester GPA, their cumulative GPA was a 3.206 which is pretty amazing for 23 student-athletes.
The Warhawks also had seven team members named as National Collegiate Bowling Coaches Association Scholar Ahtletes, which is the most in a single season. These seven young men marked the 38th - 44th NCBCA Scholar Athletes in the past 11 seasons. Congratulations to each of these student-atheltes for truly putting "student" in student-athletes!

2020-21 Season Tryout Information
The 2020-21 season is going to be different than any other season in the history of collegiate bowling. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, USBC Collegiate delayed the start of the 2020-21 season until January of 2021. This means that the Warhawks have the entire fall to work and prepare for the spring semester season.
With that said, the Warhawks have intermixed tryouts and actual practice. Each of the 26 guys bowled 6 games for a qualifying score. This seeded the players into a round robin match play format. Based on their win-loss record, the guys will be seeded into a single elimination bracket. We will then have an additional week or two of practie prior to the 24 student-athletes will be selected for the spring competitive team. Here is a list of the guys who are trying out for the 2020-21 season:
